Yes, the visa becomes validated by entering the country with it AND if I remember correctly, you need to get the initial forms you show at immigration from a Japanese embassy in your home country. (Note this was 18 years ago for me, so a bit fuzzy 😅)

If I remember correctly, you cannot switch from a traveller to a worker with a visa as you need to enter the country with the visa. So, even if you were to find a visa sponsor while traveling, you would need to leave, and then come back into the country on that visa.
