I guess it depends on your tolerance of extra people!
My personal feeling is that it won’t be as big as they expect/say as everything is behind schedule and a lot of people here are not really interested.
I think your biggest challenge will be getting a hotel as accessible rooms are already hard to get, but still should be possible.
Booking Wheelchair Seats on the Shinkansen
Hmmmm getting the same message…
@cpnheather any thoughts? I know you frequently travel there.
There are definitely accessible seats, so in the worst case scenario you could book in advance at the Midori no Madoguchi booking counter found at most larger JR stations.
Applying for Wheelchair sticker for rental car
There is a special permit you can get that let’s you park in certain no-parking zones but it takes at least two weeks and you need to be a Japanese resident as the police use the disability pass you get from city hall etc
So, not really for tourists.
However, if you just want to indicate you have a reason for parking in the wheelchairs…
Sorry, I should have read this first!
I run Accessible Japan. We don’t do rentals directly but make suggestions based on what people need and where they need it.
As mentioned in the other post, either reach out to @ohayotravel on tabifolk or use the form on Accessible Japan and I’ll put you in contact directly.
