The citadel of Sighișoara, built by Transylvanian Saxons in the 12th century, still stands today as one of Europe’s most remarkably preserved medieval towns.
But what truly draws the crowds? It’s the birthplace of Vlad III — better known as Vlad the Impaler… or, to most, Count Dracula. 🧛
Vlad’s father, Vlad Dracul, ruler of Wallachia, took refuge in Sighișoara with his wife between 1431 and 1435, during the Ottoman invasion. It was during this time that Vlad III was born, right inside the Mayoral House — still found today at No.1 Tin Street.
That same house, believed to be the oldest stone building in the city, now draws curious visitors eager to uncover legends. Whether you’re chasing vampire tales or wartime truths, Sighișoara offers both myth and history in equal measure.
