Just stayed in the “accessible room” of a hotel in Okinawa and they had a big, flat roll-in shower but no shower chair 🤨
They searched for a chair that could get wet, but only found a wobbly stool.
So I had to hold my head over the side of my wheelchair into the shower.
There is only a narrow path to the bed but no room next to the bed so I had to sit on the bottom of the bed and then slide up…
A good reason to have accessibility regulations!
Wheelchair Travel Japan3 CommentsDEFINITELY Josh I hope you laid a HUGE complaint and got a full refund on the room. I think that’s despicable I can’t bear it when hotels advertise a room as accessible and have never had a wheelchair user use it. I can remember we went to a large chain of hotels in Singapore 2 years ago and of course I asked for an accessible room (as I’m also a wheelchair user), I needed the assistance of my Support Worker to get out of the ‘accessible bathroom’. We went downstairs to explain to the Manager that the room was not acceptable, he said there were only 2 accessible rooms and the other one was already taken. We said we weren’t happy, stayed there for 3 nights and on the morning we checked out we said we’d like a refund for the inconvenience of me not being able to get in and out of the ‘accessible’ bathroom, they said all they could give us was a meal on the house. Needless to say when we went back to Singapore we didn’t stay there 😀
1I agree completely
