Anyone have any recent horrible travel experiences they need to vent about? 🧐
BexO1 CommentI’d love to!
nightmare holiday to prague
I booked an accessible hotel room through loveholidays. It stated on the description that it had some wheelchair accessible rooms.
so 3-4 weeks before my trip I sent the access team over a message to check I had been booked into one of these rooms. Every few days it would say they were still trying to contact the hotel 🤔
so I contacted them myself with some Duolingo Czech and was told the hotel was in no way wheelchair accessible 😳
it was now 5 days before my flight.
I called loveholidays and they had a manager call the hotel as they wouldn’t believe me.
they also told me they had no hotels a available during my booked holiday.
my friend was staying in a different hotel 10 mins away and that was wheelchair accessible so when they sent me a message saying I would be placed in a ground floor room and the ground floor was fully accessible I thought.. I can always swap with my friend if it’s as bad as the guy said.
I got to Prague, my wheelchair was taken to baggage claim so I got pushed in chair. They couldn’t find my wheelchair for a while, then they had lost my cushion. So we were there a while.. an extra hour and it was late.
the bus was easy to access and we changed to the metro.. also easy to access the station. Not so easy to get in the train.
anyway we were supposed to get a tram but I couldn’t find an accessible route to get on the island stop in the middle of a busy road!
we missed the last tram due to driving about trying to find how to get on there and the cobbles and the inclines killed my battery dead 😭
my friend met me and helped me to the hotel and all I wanted to do was climb into bed and not move!
I wasn’t on the ground floor but he sent me to the lift so I thought all good!
my wheelchair wouldn’t fit in the lift with me in.. so my friend went up to get it out and I sent my self up after.
the doors opened to everyone sitting on the stairs… yep! The lift came out inbetween floors to a hella lot of steps up and down. my room was down about 20 steps.
my friend tried to work it out, I tried to get a different room but they were booked out so I was told I could switch rooms in the morning.
I’d left my walking stick behind too!
so after struggling to get to breakfast which was downstairs, the receptionist told me this was the best room for me and I was allowed to use to the service lift ( this was locked the night I arrived) so I only had 4 steps to go up and down.
the guy even offered to make me a ramp out of some steel girders but the incline was too much for my motor anyway. All the doors had big wooden lips and were too small for me to get through whilst in my chair.
it was a nightmare! And when I asked my friend if I could swap to hers, her face dropped because her accessible hotel was also not accessible! 🤦🏻♀️
I contacted loveholidays during my holiday and they said they had already closed the case so I would need to raise a new one. I was only There 3 days so I contacted them when I got back.
I’ve been told I have to wait 28 days for a response.
I searched reviews of loveholidays because it has 4.3 stars on there site with Trustpilot yet I found a second rating for them on trustpilot to of 1 star!
don’t use them. I feel I will be going to the ombudsman for this but I found at least another 5 hotels that stated wheelchair accessible rooms that were no way even accessible to get through the door.
many have been removed from the disabled facilities filter but the hotels still state it on the details.
Prague is an amazing place and I really wanted to take some vids to show people but my holiday was ruined, I was in so much pain I didn’t get to do half of what I wanted.
so call the hotel and check before making a booking! And double check those reviews.
