First time I was stopped by security 😰😵💫, but managed to get some pictures of the toilets at the new Kabukicho Tower.
alliejay and rohan10 CommentsYou in Japan? Travelling? I am too.
Yeah the toilets are amazing and they’re everywhere. Even if a place doesn’t have a separate room for handicapped toilet, they have retrofitted one urinal and one cubicle with grab bars and stuff.Just realized you live in Japan. Hello!
Yup, live here! Glad you are enjoying it!
Wait, why were you stopped by security?
Likely because they got flak for this and are a bit sensitive about people taking pictures there. It was just the one floor, others were fine.
Yikes, their ‘solution’ looks awful. It looks like you’re doing your business in an office cubicle.
Japan has the best accessible restrooms. Here in the States, they may be accessible but not always spotless.
I am amazed at the accessible restroom found throughout Japan. They are generally clean even in some of the more crowded public places. I was getting very worried about the restroom situation in Japan as my partner needs my assistance using the restroom and we are opposite genders. Finding these eased our anxiety quite a bit. I just wish that US would put more of these type of restrooms in all public areas and in major shopping centers/department stores.
Yes, I love them. And they are becoming more and more standardized lately (sometimes you didn’t know what you were going to get…).
I remember the challenges of using toilets like the ones you mentioned in the US when I was in Canada as a kid. Going out somewhere with my mom (caregiver) was always such a challenge – which toilet do you use?!
Appreciate you taking one for the team with security and taking these photos, Josh! I think if we could get the rest of the world to do 25% of what Japan does for accessible toilets, we’d be in a better place than we are now.
