What an absolutely fantastic and generous post — thank you for this. We’ll be going to Berlin (and then on to Munich) later this year — our twelve year-old is in a w/c which we, parents, push. Selfishly, I really appreciate your sharing this!

Okay, so via the Japan Forum I shared problems, plural, we had with JR (specifically East but also Central, in Takayama-shi, Gifu-ken) refusing to give my son IN A WHEELCHAIR a wheelchair seat on the shinkansen. As you mentioned, JR East is much worse than the others, but there shouldn’t be difference and certainly not for those who are GUESTS!
