I am coming to Japan(Tokyo & Osaka) in March.
As l will only be requiring two seperate trips on the Shinkansen. (Tokyo to Osaka & Osaka to Narita Airport) we have decided not to buy the 7 or 14 day pass but purchase individual tickets for each trip.
We are 3 persons one in a manual wheelchair.
Can we buy individual tickets before we…

1You can book on line 30 days before travel. There’s limited wheelchair space so do it as soon as you can to be sure of your arrangements.

Charging scooter battery
Hi everyone, my husband uses a Luggie Scooter to get around. The specs for the battery are in the screenshot below. Can anyone help me with knowing whether I need a voltage converter for the charging unit in Japan? I’ve read the Accessible Japan page but still not sure. Thank you
View more commentsHi, I had to check recently to see if my smart drive charger would work. I asked ChatGPT and it said:
There are two things that determine whether a charger works abroad:
1. Voltage compatibility
Japan uses 100V electricity.
Most modern mobility‑device chargers (including SmartDrive) are dual‑voltage, meaning they accept something like:
“Input:…

Hoist delivery and wheelchair accessible taxi
Hi everyone,
I’m planning my second trip to Japan from Australia. I’m a full-time wheelchair user, can’t walk, using hoist to tranfer. The first time we went to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka and got the hoist delivered to the hotel we stayed in each city with no issue – for some reasons I have been unable to contact that company which delivered the…
View more commentsHello, and thank you for your post.
We can help arrange hoist (patient lift) delivery/setup and wheelchair-accessible taxi/transfer services in Japan.
To be completely honest, the Mt. Fuji area is a bit far from hoist service base, so we may not be able to provide a hoist immediately there, and the delivery/setup cost can be quite high due to…

Workshops & crafting suggestions
Hello everyone!
I am an ambulatory wheelchair user looking for things to do in Tokyo. Do you have any suggestions for accessible workshops or crafting activities? Things like knife making, cloth painting, etc. Thus far, I have been contacting places individually, with limited success. I saw one post about activities near Haneda in this forum, but…
Can it be a little outside of Tokyo? This place in Hakone is accessible: https://www.accessible-japan.com/places/japan/kanagawa-1/hakone/attractions/hakone-maruyama-bussan-and-karakuri-museum/

Buying w/chair ticket for Shinkansen travel in May
Hi
I am coming to Japan at the end of April and I want to buy a Shinkansen ticket for Hiroshima to Kyoto on May 6. I have been told I can’t buy a train ticket online till one month before travel. Do any of you know of a way I can buy now because I don’t want to run the risk of not being able to travel on that date.
Many thanks.
James
View more commentsUnfortunately the 30 day rule applies to everyone. Tickets are available from (I think) 01:30am Tokyo time. There’s many trains so if you get in early you should be able to get what you want. As you are travelling from Hiroshima it might be easier than from Tokyo.
Thanks Maury.🙏
