Booking wheelchair seat on Shinkansen bullet train
I was on the official Smart-ex website to book train seats. There will be 3 of us – me in a wheelchair plus 2 companions. When I key in 3 adults and request a wheelchair accessible seat, it says I can’t do it for 3. I think it thinks I’m reserving 3 wheelchair seats. Hi, my experience was that wheelchair seat cannot be booked online. There are only a few seats in train that are considered as wheelchair seats. If you can book wheelchair accessible seat online, please share the website. Many thanks.

You have to go through the system twice. Get the wheelchair seat first. Having done the trip several times you don’t get a lot of chances to see Fuji as it might be obscured by clouds and there’s a lot of noise barriers on the trackside not to mention tunnels which limit the view.

I submitted my request for special assistance and my booking says the request is registered but I always like to confirm things by phone especially as it gets closer to flight date but it has been impossible to connect by phone.
