Booking wheelchair seat on Shinkansen bullet train
I was on the official Smart-ex website to book train seats. There will be 3 of us – me in a wheelchair plus 2 companions. When I key in 3 adults and request a wheelchair accessible seat, it says I can’t do it for 3. I think it thinks I’m reserving 3 wheelchair seats. If I book 1 wheelchair seat for me, how do I book the other 2 to make sure…

You have to go through the system twice. Get the wheelchair seat first. Having done the trip several times you don’t get a lot of chances to see Fuji as it might be obscured by clouds and there’s a lot of noise barriers on the trackside not to mention tunnels which limit the view.

Thank you to everyone who commented and reached out privately. I truly appreciate the support! Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find an airline that can accommodate my wheelchair crate for the short flight, as it’s too large for aircraft like the 737 and Airbus 200 series. So for now, I’m back to the drawing…
JAL
What’s the best way to confirm that Japan Airlines has my special assistance request? I booked through Alaska Airlines originally. I have used the online chat twice. I submitted an online special assistance form and someone called me from a California number, but when I call JAL at its US number, it often just drops. I’m trying to travel with…
View more commentsI agree! I’ve been unable to get a hold of anyone from JAL. I submitted my request for special assistance and my booking says the request is registered but I always like to confirm things by phone especially as it gets closer to flight date but it has been impossible to connect by phone. I am perpetually on hold (I timed it at over an hour one…

I was able to get an email address when I asked Google Gemini (AI). It even drafted an email template for me. The email didn’t bounce back so I hope it’s legit. I sent it yesterday so I haven’t heard back.
