I’m not a visitor to Japan so this is a bit of brainstorming rather than experience, but here are some things that I thought of:
Difficult for visitors to check ingredients of food for allergic reactions or dietary restrictions because packages are only labeled in Japanese. Other countries tend to be further ahead with multi-lingual… Read more

Any one been to Himakajima? (Aichi Prefecture)
We only found out about the parking problem once we arrived at the ferry terminal, but managed to make a day out of it on the “mainland” anyway. In the end we enjoyed a seafood lunch, tasting at a rice cracker manufacturer, and then poking around at an old beer factory. Not all was lost.

An update. We were this close to visiting Himakajima last weekend, but to no avail.
Unfortunately, despite contacting the ferry and arranging for 8 wheelchair users to have a place on the boat, we were foiled by lack of parking at the ferry terminal due to the Golden Week holidays in Japan. This is a problem for all tourists, but made… Read more
Good accessibility at the Honmaru Palace on the grounds of Nagoya Castle in Japan. This is a brand new rebuilt wooden building with beautiful screen paintings. There is a ramp up to the building and no steps inside. They do insist on cleaning your wheelchair tires before entering and removing your shoes (even if you are using a wheelchair… Read more
