    Hello,

I’m traveling to Japan at the end of March for 3 weeks. I’m on a wheelchair without any possibility to walk and I’m finding difficulties to find wheelchair taxi services. We are 3 people, I’m the only one on the wheelchair. I already organized in Kyoto but for other places it’s very difficult and the prices are really too expensive. What can I do? Is there any link or people that can help us? This is our trip itinerary: Tokyo, Hakone, Osaka, Fukui, Kanazawa, Nagano and we would love to go also to Nikko. Thank you very much for any information. 🙏🏼🌸

I have run into the same problem.

Through accessible Japan, I received an email from this person they rent out electric wheelchairs,wanping@tokudaw.com

But the cost were very very high. to rent an electric wheelchair for 12 days was almost 900 American dollars. I can buy one in the states and take it with me for $2200.

They also had a service with a van that they would take us in our case Mount Fuji and back for the day. It was a 10 hour trip. It was close to $2000 American money.

Unfortunately, being handicap in Japan is very expensive

Yes it is a little bit impossible 😅🤦🏼‍♀️ I’m trying to organize a 10 hour trip from Tokyo to Nikko but the ones I found cost more than 1200 euro!

I think I used the wrong words 😅 I don’t want to rent a car that is accessible to my wheelchair, I would like to know if there are wheelchair taxi services.

My daughter is in a wheelchair. When I was in Japan last year I looked at disabled access to plan our trip (next week). Tokyo and Osaka have extensive metro systems and are very accessible. Both systems have 3D maps of station interiors. With a bit of research with Google maps you can plan trips. Similarly JR have good wheelchair access. I will note however some stations on the Osaka Loop Line are somewhat uncomfortable. For Kanazawa there’s plenty of local buses with wheelchair access. The station is accessible and local buses and taxis are at the station. I don’t know about Nikko, by train you will have to probably make two changes, JR East customer service is helpful. We have a packed itinerary with a lot of travel and will be using public transport everywhere. The one issue is that there’s limited wheelchair seating on Limited Express and Shinkansen trains and they can only be booked a month in advance and not necessarily on line. I do know a Tokyo based travel agent who specialises in disabled travel if you want their contact details.
