Wheelchair Accessible Dentist in Tokyo/Kanagawa?
Wheelchair Accessible Dentist in Tokyo/Kanagawa?
Posted by kenigor on March 23, 2021 at 12:20 pmI’m searching for an accessible dentist who speaks English but it seems a bit challenging. Most of the options are not accessible at all. Do you know any?

Yes, a ridiculous number of dentists here have a step going from the reception area into the examination room area!
My dentist provides a ramp, and I don’t transfer, but just recline my wheelchair.
How essential is the English part?
Which ward are you looking for?
Yes, exactly! I’ve been searching for a while and in most cases, they have a step.
Well, I’m really open about the ward, if in Kanagawa or Tokyo anywhere is fine.
About the English part, my Japanese is quite limited, I’m afraid if there’s any misunderstanding, but in the last case at least I feel I can try.
The best option might be to go to a university affiliated hospital with dentistry. Here are some:
https://www.showa-u.ac.jp/en/medical_care.html
(Just search the page for “dentistry”)
You are more likely to find English speaking staff and accessibility.
HOWEVER, when going to one of these big hospitals, they often want you to have an introduction letter from your normal place. Though, they are also understanding if it isn’t possible but you may need to fill in extra forms saying why you don’t have a letter…
If Japanese is your biggest concern, I know that @takeshi is introducing a service to help people in your situation. Perhaps he can help?
Hi, folks:
Here is one located in Meguro ward. They have English page on their site, and Meguro City office says they are accessible and English, Chinese and Korean are acceptable.
Ro dental office
〒152-0031 Tokyo, Meguro Ward, Nakane 1 Chome-7-3, Livable Toritsu-Dai Building 3F
Phone: 03-3724-1769
Hope you can find good one!
Wow! You are incredible! Thank you!
Hi! I don’t have personal experience with an accessible dentist, but found some information on this website: https://haisha-yoyaku.jp/
You can do a keyword search. I tried “barrier-free” and “English OK”. (Too bad the website itself doesn’t have English translation.”
I looked for “barrier-free” and “English OK” dentists with an English website. I hope it helps!
Tokyo International Dental Clinic Roppongi
Dental Corporation Hamille (Branches in Otemachi, Toranomon, and Ogawamachi)
https://hamille-dental.com/contact/en
I hope you will find a good dentist!
Warm wishes,
Emi
Hi, Folks:
Yes, it’s problematic to search accurate information on the net. Even if searching with words like “バリアフリー (barrier-free)” or “英語対応(English OK)” in Japanese, the search results are still iffy. Even if looking into each website, it’s hard to clarify if there are steps at the entrance and/or all facilities inside are accessible.
Here are additional findings:
The Health Life Dental Clinic in Shimbashi.
Otemachi Place Dental Clinic In Otemachi.
Both are located in the buildings close to train stations, and hopefully no steps at the entrance because these buildings look relatively new.
All the best,
Oh, good to know, thanks @joshgrisdale !
@kenigor Did you end up finding a dentist that worked for you?
Yes @joshgrisdale ! Actually, I just came back from Ro Dental Office in Meguro Ward, recommended by @wilgo . It’s accessible, very close to a Toyoko Line station and the dentist explains everything in English. Staff can’t speak English but they are super friendly, so it shouldn’t be a problem.
Thanks again everyone!
