Tokyo Disney Ticket for Guests with Disabilities

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with what documentation is needed for the Tokyo Disney ticket type, 1-Day Passport for Guests with Disabilities? My disability is very visible (I’ll be in a wheelchair with an AFO) and I have a US disability placard. Would a picture or copy of that be sufficient?

Also, should I even buy that ticket instead of the regular ticket type? I’m familiar with the US Disney parks where you don’t need to do anything different if your disability is managed using a wheelchair.

    Hello,

    Sorry for the late reply!

Disney is a notoriously difficult place to give an answer about. In general, the rules etc are written assuming you are a resident of Japan with a Japan-issued disability ID. Not having such an ID could present challenges – even if your disability is obvious.

I have heard stories with both endings – no problems at all, and lots of issues.

    My advice:

    • Get any ID related to disability, or a note from a doctor, translated to show to the accessibility desk. The more you have, the better.
    • Be warned that many of the rides are not accessible to wheelchair users. This didn’t used to be the cases and I rode on splash mountain ages ago. However, after the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and Tsunami many theme parks started restricting access to rides to those who can evacuate without assistance in an emergency. All the shows etc are accessible and have good wheelchair seating, just the rides can be an issue.

As for getting the accessible tickets, it could be a gamble – it may be safest to get regular tickets. So, hard to say either way.

Thanks for the reply! I ended up getting the specific Guests with Disabilities ticket. I brought my disability placard ID card(USA) as well as a doctors note (in English). Since I went multiple days I tested both and either seemed to suffice, although some Cast Members seemed to examine it more than others, so I think having two types is a safer option.

If anyone is reading this in the future, I did email Disney for some clarity before my trip and this was their response. Hope it helps!

“Depending on Guests’ conditions, available Park tickets will vary.

Please refer to the following definition, and then confirm which ticket will be applicable for you.

      – “1-Day Passport (for Guests with Disabilities)”: Guests with a permanent disability
      – “1-Day Passport”: Guests with a temporary disability*

*For the definition of “temporary disability”, it includes persons of advanced age, expectant mothers and those with temporary injury.
*For those applicable to “1-Day Passport”, please skip reading 1) as shown below.

      1) 1-Day Passport (for Guests with Disabilities)
For example, if the number of visitors is three people, please purchase Park tickets as shown below.

You : a 1-Day Passport (for Guests with Disabilities)
Accompanying Guest A: a 1-Day Passport (for Guests with Disabilities)
      Accompanying Guest B: a regular 1-Day Passport

Up to one accompanying Guest may purchase a 1-Day Passport (for Guests with Disabilities) for each Guest with a certificate.
Park tickets can be purchased through our official website below.
      https://www.tokyodisneyresort.jp/en/ticket/index.html

A Cast Member at the Park entrance will check the applicable Guest’s disability certificate at the time of admission.
Again, please note that we do not accept any copy of the certificate.

Regarding a disability certificate, we would generally ask the applicable Guest to bring a certificate* issued by the government or an equivalent administrative agency of the Guest’s country of residence.
*Please bring the original document (not a copy) or an App for the disability handbook.
*If your ID card is recognized as a certificate in your country, it will be accepted as a valid certificate at Tokyo Disney Resort.

In case it is difficult to get it, a medical certificate or letter issued by the Guest’s doctor may also be fine.
There is no specific or original form available at Tokyo Disney Resort.
As long as a document that states all of the following information can be presented, we will accept it as a valid certificate.

      – Name of applicable Guest’s Doctor
      – Applicable Guest’s full name
      – Name of the disability
      – Medical condition
*No translation into Japanese is required.
*It should be the original, not a copy.
