Looking for a hotel and I see a lot of toilets have a control panel on the side that will stop my commode from going over the bowl.
Do the panels swing out and make space? Do I need to ask the hotel or just assume they do by looking at a photo?
I have dismissed a lot of hotels because of the pictures.

Unfortunately, they are not removable. It is physically attached to the toilet.
I guess the only think I can say is that those are the old style of washlets (the bidet toilets) from the 90s. That style is getting less and less common. The new ones have a remote control panel on the wall.
If you keep looking, you should find ones without that side panel.
