Luggage shipping service

Good morning-my husband and I will be going to Japan in November. I had originally planned on using Yamato transport to ship our luggage between Tokyo and Kyoto, and then upon our return from Kyoto to Narita.

However, I am having difficulty determining whether we can get same-day luggage delivery on both these trips. We will be carrying not only our personal luggage, but medical supplies and equipment which my husband must use on a daily basis and cannot go without. Although we try to pack light, his needs require that we bring about three pieces of luggage. This a bit much to carry on the train and to shift around in train stations without assistance.

My first question is has anybody had experience with same day delivery between Kyoto and Narita?

My second question is whether one could keep luggage in the multipurpose room on the Shinkansen.

My third question is whether there are porters at the train station to help with luggage carried by disabled people?

thank you so much for all of your help!

I am travel agent and take similar queries occasionally. Unfortunately there is no inexpensive solution to make the same-day delivery system. You have a solution but it is just like to hire a car and the driver doing the round trip in one day.
If you or your family use(s) a wheelchair, you can book the “tamokuteki-shitsu” or multipupose room or the compartment for disabled people.

The porter service is not likely at the train station. Alternative solution is that you hire a person to help carry the luggage in one station and another at the station you get off the train. Again it is costly solution.

Between Tokyo and Kyoto, the luggage is delivered within one day, i.e. if you send it today, you will get it tomorrow. So I would suggest you travel carrying minimum luggage with which you can survive one day.

Thank you for this information. It is helpful to know but I am disappointed as I don’t think I can manage the luggage.

    Nice to meet you.

To make your travel a little easier, I think you should consider entering the country at Narita and departing from Kansai Airport. This will keep costs down.

In that case, for example, I could ask someone to attend to you in Tokyo until you board the Shinkansen at Tokyo Station, and I could wait for you at Shin-Osaka Station. Then I could take you and your many luggage in a car and escort you to your hotel. If you do the same to Kansai Airport, it will be less expensive and hassle than going back to Tokyo.

    Regards.

I also think we should do this. Would you be able to take a large power wheelchair?

      thank you

I think it’s probably OK, but could you please tell me the height, width and weight?

      Thank you.

      Thank you Tak!

with my husband in his wheelchair, the dimensions are 52 inches high, 25 inches wide and 52 inches long. The length can be adjusted by removing the foot rests.

with him in the chair, it weighs 281 kg.

It is a possibility that he will have a new lighter and smaller chair by November

please let me know whether his chair can fit in your vehicle! I sure hope it does!

I will suggest you courier your luggage, then you only take handcarry size bag to bring”just enough stuff” for 1 or 2 nights. Normally, you expect “next day arrival” of your luggage. Remember to check the cut-off time with hotel staff.
