    Hi everyone,

I use a wheelchair and am planning a trip to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto with my SO. We’re looking for budget-friendly hotels with wheelchair-accessible showers (no step-in tubs, as I’m not comfortable using them).

Do you have any recommendations for such hotels? Also, what are the best websites for finding barrier-free accommodations? I’ve checked the Accessible-Japan blog, but many hotels listed there don’t provide email addresses to inquire about shower chairs or lack detailed photos of the bathrooms. Some are also unavailable for my dates.

Has anyone stayed at these hotels? If so, can you share your experience?

    Daiwa Roynet Hotel Tokyo Osaki

    Act Hotel Roppongi

    Hotel M’s Plus Shijo Omiya

    Hotel Sanrriott Osaka Hommachi

I’d be very grateful for your advice and tips!

    Thank you in advance!

I recommend the Toyoko Inn Chain. Many of the hotels have a “Heartful Room” that is wheelchair accessible with shower/toilet. Very reasonable ((ABOUT 10,000 Yen) and as a bonus, they have a light breakfast buffet and washing machine / dryers in the lobby area. They are always close to a train station, so usually lots of restaurants and convenience store nearby.

      Thank you!

How do Japanese hotels handle taking down difficult email addresses or personal details over the phone if they don’t provide an email address on their website? Is it easy to communicate with them over the phone?

Also, is it possible to communicate with them via SMS instead?

Depends on Hotel, some have very good English language skills. Toyoko Inn, you apply for membership to book rooms ahead of time.

Toyoko Inn is your bare bones basics and not so bad.

Daiwa Roynet Hotels are pretty decent quality.

Sotetsu Fresa is also an all right chain that sometimes offers universal rooms.

If you want to go up in quality or budget a bit then the Mitsui Garden chains are good too.
