Enjoy Yokohama’s new accessible ropeway
Posted by Accessible Japan on May 10, 2021 at 3:43 pmIt is exciting to see that Yokohama’s new ropeway is open to everyone. Even better than that is that they are not burying the fact, but listing on the information page that all carriages are accessible as the first point!
Once it is safer to travel again, should we do a more detailed check?
Here is a video:

It is! I saw it this morning on my friend’s Instagram. He was there yesterday. Happy to hear about the accessibility! Yeah!!
It is awesome when the onus isn’t on the person with the disability to search for the information!
Is your friend disabled? Do they have any pictures or videos of accessibility at the ropeway they might share?
He isn’t disabled and his photos were only from outside, looking up at them.
Too bad, but looks like @VRSteve has it covered 🙂
ohhhh so awesome! I gotta check this out! Never heard of it before!
It just opened recently.
You should go over there! It would be a perfect project for you!
I was actually thinking that! the ferris wheel combo 🙂 do some VR
Please do!
Ohh, nighttime ride looks fun! Definitely have to consider this next visit. ?
Going to try it out this weekend now that the lockdown has lifted!
Rode on Yokohama Sky Cabin rope way yesterday.
There is an elevator up to the ticket booth and tactile blocks in most areas. The ticket wicket is wide enough for a wheelchair but you must open it with the QR on your ticket, so some help may be needed.
When you are ready to get in the gondola, they stop the rope way and fold up the seat in the gondola for more room (one side or both sides can be lifted up). There is practically no gap between the platform and the gondola.
There are accessible toilets at the station.Fantastic to see and hear it is a good set up. Nice view?
5 mins only! That’s a bit of a rip off. How much is it?
Various prices: https://yokohama-air-cabin.jp/en/
1000 yen for me and companion.ya,,,, that what I thought too! Much hype but very short trip! Almost Takes longer to get on and off haha. but it is pretty awesome view!
The gondola looks a little tight for a wheelchair, but understandably so. Very cool that it is so accessible, I will definitely try it next time I’m there. Are tickets fairly inexpensive? ?
It was a bit smaller than I envisioned. However, after getting on, I realized I was facing the wrong way to see the Ferris wheel. With both benches lifted up, I was able to turn around inside the gondola. My wheelchair is about 120cm long.
Good you could twirl around!
Though, should be noted that it did rock the gondola a bit more than I would have liked when I turned around!
I thought I posted this lol
