No More Free Checked Luggage on Southwest Airlines
Starting May 28, 2025, checked luggage on Southwest Airlines will no longer be free unless you fly business class, have their credit card, or have upper tiers in their Rewards Program. Medical equipment will still be checked for free.
SW was the last carrier not to have luggage fees. I loved to fly them in the Western US because of no luggage fees. Now, they won’t be my preferred carrier.

Yikes, that’s too bad. Was that the reason you preferred them? Who will you choose now?
Yeah, that’s why I preferred them. Baggage fees can ‘make or break’ affordability. Plus, they haven’t damaged my chair yet. And, I mostly fly along the West Coast, so they’re usually the most affordable.
