Hi
My wife and I will be travelling to Japan. I use a foldable electric wheelchair for travel and can transfer into a seat. We will be using the Shinkansen.
We will also have one large suitcase.
Would we be better to book 2 seats with luggage space?
Do the wheelchair spaces have room for luggage?
Thanking you
2 CommentsWheelchair seats on the Shinkansen are very limited and it appears that you can only book online for the Tokyo to Kagoshima route (please someone correct me if I am wrong). I have used a travel agent in Japan to book me wheelchair seats and they reported yesterday that they had difficulty getting them as the seats were fully booked as soon as they were available. I would recommend to get the standard seats with extra luggage space. If you search you can find the seat maps for Shinkansen and you will find that some carriages have space behind the back row and additional large luggage storage at the end of the carriage. Bear in mind that seats are turned on the train so that you always facing the direction of travel. When booking on line you can specify seats with extra luggage space.
Thank you
