Hi Everyone, hope your weekend is going well. Solo traveller hoping to go to Japan in late January.
1. I’m the process of booking wheelchair accessible hotel through APA hotel chain ( in Tokyo), as according to their website, all locations have a wheelchair friendly room. I am booking it through bookings.com as that seems like the only available reservation platform. I sent them a message ( through their website) a week ago to confirm about accessibility. I haven’t had any response yet. There also appears to be no phone number. Does anyone have advice on this? I would of course prefer to book this as early as possible.
2. What would be the best way to visit/see Mt Fuji from Tokyo? In terms of accessible modes of transport? Shinkansen etc. ? Would love to tons of photos of Fuji san. I plan to make a day trip of it.
3. Any other activities that is highly recommended/interesting by fellow wheelchair users in and around Tokyo? Seeing some snowy places would be a bonus ( I have already listed teamLab, tokyo skytree, sensoji temple, tsukiji market in my itinerary)
4. What is it like to navigate a snowy Tokyo/Japan with a wheelchair? Are there some precautions I should take? Is it slippery or are there any hazards? How easy or difficult is to wheel on snow? ( coming from a country that never gets snow)
Thank you in advance
2 CommentsHello,
1 you can try to send a message via Booking.com.
3- you can go to Shibuya and hakihabara. And https://www.ghibli-museum.jp/en/ if you like moovies but if i remember, it’ s a Little far Away and you have to réserve tickets early.
Have a nice trip.
Hi.
Good evening.
Regarding #1, why don’t you try calling the APA hotel you are booking directly? The consumer center for the entire group often does not disclose the phone number.
2. I think it is probably best to take the Odakyu line from Shinjuku. There are fewer transfers. Or I recommend taking a taxi from within Tokyo. It is a taxi that you can get in while in a wheelchair. However, it is much more expensive than going by train.
3. Regarding places where you can see snow near Tokyo, the surest places are at least about 2 hours by train from Tokyo.
4. It only snows a few times a year in Tokyo. And it is very rare for it to snow enough to accumulate. However, when such an event occurs, Tokyo’s urban functions are often paralyzed. Because Tokyo hardly ever snows, it is not used to it…
Regards.
Tak
