I recently made this vlog of a review of the activities on Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas! Overall, I had a great time on the ship, but I noticed that there were opportunities for adaptive options. For instance, all of the water slides had stairs to get to them, and the zip line didn’t have any adaptive harnesses (and was also only accessible by stairs).
While there was still SO MUCH to do, so my trip wasn’t necessarily negatively affected, I couldn’t help but think of ways to improve the cruising experience for disabled people.
What are your thoughts or experiences about activities on cruise ships? Let’s discuss below!
Anthony @ The World is Accessible and Josh Grisdale10 Comments@joshgrisdale yes, I believe that there are! I don’t know too much about them, I have seen some with huge party vibes, but I wouldn’t necessarily say that is automatic with a kids-free one
@daniellevates Cool. I’d prefer a more relaxed cruise, but a few parties. Though, too many would also be annoying maybe…
@joshgrisdale I watched a documentary (forget the name) that definitely made me want to do my research for a reputable line because some cruises advertised towards adults actually had a lot of crime going on!

@joshgrisdale I tried to look but couldn’t find it 😬 so I don’t know if it’s on Amazon Prime anymore. it wasn’t really a well done documentary per se, but did show a side of the party cruises that I didn’t know about! mostly a lot of hardcore drugs that I am not really sure how they were able to get onboard lol

@Josh Grisdale Virgin voyages is adult only. Although my feeling has always been a party vibe. I feel like most lines have a pretty diverse offering though.
Where have you seen adaptive water slides? I’d love to know what that looks like. Is it an elevator? Or a ramp?
1@learnersandmakers the Disney Wish has a water slide where the platform is accessible via platform lift. The rafts are still really low to the ground so I needed a lot of help getting in and out, but I felt more secure being on a two-seater raft. I made a video of it last year! https://www.youtube.com/shorts/61RCA1vUvT4?app=desktop
