Im not sure if Im doing this right or not! we will see! My daughter will be brining a foldable scooter. she just got diagnosed with ALS and falls easy so we thought a folding scooter is best for her. how hard is it to get around? Im excited we are going to Japan in November, but nervous at the same time.
Thanks for having this group! I hope to learn more before our trip.
4 CommentsWhich scooter did you get? We have the Atto and we are about to leave for Japan in 3 weeks from today! This forum has been extremely helpful and we are determined to figure out the best and most respectful way to navigate Japan via our foldable 🙂
it is a Transformer 2 foldable scooter.
Hi Susan,
I have ALS and I’m so sorry for your daughter.
I went to Japan for 2 weeks and hired a power wheelchair (Whills C2) in Osaka. I had a great time there and visited all the main attractions.
Some footpaths are terribly bumpy. But scooters are not recognised as wheelchairs by some transport companies. A PWC will give you priority everywhere you go.
Hope this helps.
1As mentioned, scooters do have more challenges than wheelchairs: https://global.jr-central.co.jp/en/info/_pdf/mobility_scooters.pdf
But it is possible! See: https://www.accessible-japan.com/go-global-traveling-in-japan-with-a-mobility-scooter/
if you need to rent one, you can use the rental form on Accessible Japan
