Chile itinerary–Patagonia or Atacama desert?,

Hi, We are planning a bike trip in Chile next November around the central coast and wine country of Chile. Either before or after the bike trip, we want to spend another week, either in Patagonia or the Atacama desert. Santiago would be our departure point and we will see Valpo as part of the bike trip. Because they are so far apart, I don’t think we can do both without spending a lot of time in transit. I realize that these areas are very different, but would appreciate any advice on one vs. the other in terms of things to see, weather, accommodations or other considerations. We like to hike and don’t mind cooler weather, although I dislike wind. I also, get seasick easily, so boat trips don’t work for me. If we spent 3 days in San Pedro de Atacama, where else in the north would people recommend that we go?
