Hello group members, this is not a funny disability fail but a serious request for help to avoid a disability failure… my contact Ileana from Naples, Italy, runs not only a travel agency for travellers who are blind or have mobility disabilities, but she also has been for 10 years organising adaptive sailing courses in the BEAUTIFUL area around Naples, which I might just remind you includes Capri, Sorrento, costiera Amalfitana etc etc… Apart from the “richer” touristic areas, her adaptive sailing association has taken out to sea hundres of people and was hosted (but it was actually a rental, as it was paid) by the Italian Air Force. After 10 years, saying they have to use that space for a training course, they are evicting them (even if they paid the rent regularly – even during COVID – and followed all the rules – you can imagine how these guys doing adaptive sailing were dangerous subversives….not).
What would you do if you had to stop something like this happening? And also: do you know any journalists who would like to cover the story? I would like to help Ileana in raising an international critical mass so that this, or other stories like this elsewhere, do not happen. I know the people that are evicting them must have thought that since it’s a disabled people non profit association they will just shut up and go… but I think we should make them change their mind.
Any tips or help is TOTALLY WELCOME.
Thank you for your time and ideas!!!
Eleonora
