  • Hey everyone I am a power chair user that uses a hoyer lift. I am afraid to damage my power wheelchair and I wanted to hear other people’s airline experiences.

How did you protect yourself and your wheelchair?

I don’t use a power chair myself, but I’ve heard from friends who do that a few things really help — like removing anything that sticks out (joystick, headrest, footrests), wrapping the fragile parts with bubble wrap or even pool noodles, and taping clear instructions right on the chair so baggage crew know how to handle it. They also always…

      • While not physically protecting, I always recommend taking multiple pictures/videos of your wheelchair when you pass it off so there will be no doubt that it was damaged by the airline or ground staff.

Look up and get in touch with local repair shops so if anything comes up there is no “what should we do?” moment.

In Australia we have the Sunflower logo for people with hidden disabilities. I have Fibromyalgia, Diabetes and Arthritis so I am a little slower with my sightseeing and do require frequent downtime to rest.

I read about the HELP MARK symbol in Japan and…

Does anybody knows of a car rental firm that rent cars with a hand operated gas and brake rather then feet?

        • Hello

You may want to reach out to DPI Japan as I think some center’s for independent living have internships, but I’m not sure if they cover costs.

        • Nice to e-meet you Oudai, and I do hope you get to travel to Japan soon!

I love Cambodia, by the way. I was there about a decade ago. Not very accessible though, sadly! As I am sure you know very well yourself.

Where in Cambodia are you living?
