There’s a new “Excellence in Accessible Tourism” category at the 2023 Australian Tourism Awards (and GetAboutAble is the official sponsor)
GetAboutAble is proud to partner with the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in 2023 as the exclusive sponsor of the new Excellence in Accessible Tourism Awards Category.
GetAboutAble’s Founding Director, Dr Yasmine Gray, said she is thrilled that leaders in accessible tourism will now have the opportunity to be recognised at a national level.
The inclusion of the Excellence in Accessible Tourism category in the Australian Tourism Awards helps demonstrate the need for tourism operators to focus on becoming more accessible and inclusive now and into the future. With 1 in 5 people having some form of accessibility need, it’s time for tourism businesses to address that market.
This category is open to Australian tourism businesses or attractions delivering tourism products or services that are welcoming for people of all abilities. Entrants in this category are required to demonstrate how their business’ accessibility has developed over time.
Australian Tourism and Industry Council CEO Erin McLeod said she encourages tourism operators who are delivering accessible and inclusive products or services to apply for their State or Territory Tourism Awards in order to be in the running for the Australian Awards later this year.
Following the successful launch of our Accessible Accreditation program, which provides businesses with an online tool to understand how they meet the needs of an accessible tourist and where the gaps in the business are, as well as an Accessibility guide to empower all visitors to understand if the business can cater to their specific needs, we are honoured to now take the logical next step and welcome this new Awards Category to the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards in 2023. I encourage any tourism business committed to accessibility to nominate for this category. We hope the inclusion of this category will encourage more tourism operators to focus on becoming more accessible in 2024 and beyond.
GetAboutAble has also been engaged by the Australian Tourism Industry Council (ATIC) as the accessibility consultant for the 2023 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards and GetAboutAble’s Founding Director Dr Yasmine Gray will sit on the national judging panel for the 2023 Awards.
The Qantas Australian Tourism Awards celebrate innovation and exceptional standards in tourism, and will be held on 15 March 2024 at the Darwin Convention Centre.

This is excellent – awarding places that are doing well is just as important, if not more important, than pointing out places that are not doing it right.
